April Ross

April Ross is only one of the beach volleyball players to have won medals more than once at an Olympics. Alix-Klineman will compete with April Ross in Tokyo for her third gold in the next couple of days. Ross is hoping to secure the Olympic first gold medal, but she's also hoping to win more. Since she's 39 years old she could have her last shot. Her confidence is high nevertheless. If we play our top or perform well, I think we'll win the gold medal Ross declared on NBC Boston. Therefore, I'm hoping to have the chance as well. Ross was born in California, Costa Mesa in 1982. Her parents as well as her sister were residents there. Along with playing in numerous sports, Ross was also a student at Newport Harbor High School. As a pre-schooler she was a participant in indoor volleyball along with basketball and track. She clearly was the top player in indoor volleyball. According to her bio, she played an outside blocker as well as a middle volleyball player during her high-school career. For her efforts she was named the 1999 Gatorade Champion of Champions Circle of Champions Player of the Year. Also, she won the award in 2000. Orange County Athlete of the Award for volleyball. Ross and Klineman have been performing their roles in 2017. The reality is that Ross was an important player in the world of beach volleyball before the pairing. She actually won several major championships while playing in the past with two different partners. one of which is an icon of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years from 2007 to 2013. She also worked with Klineman and herself. Kessy's teammate Ross, who was the winner of the world championship with Kessy in 2009, was also an important player on the world stage. This duo went into winning a silver at the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor took home gold beating them to it. Ross was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's resignation. They both went on to take home the bronze beach volleyball trophy at the Rio Olympics 2016 with Walsh Jennings. Ross participated in the Trojans of USC in her college after graduating from high school. Her time at USC was awe-inspiring. When she was a freshman in 2000 Her performance was rewarded with the Pac-10 and NCAA Young Player of the Year awards. Her performance also assisted in helping the Trojans to make it to the Final Four. The second season of her career she suffered a devastating personal loss and still managed to earn the honor of being named an All-American. In her two final years with the Trojans, she helped them win consecutive championships. As an individual, she established herself as an all-time legend having won the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross majored in International Relations at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, never had the chance to watch Ross' daughter blossom into a beach volleyball superstar. In 2001 when Ross was a sophomore studying at USC her mother passed away due to breast cancer. This meant that Ross continues to be near to her mother who passed away. Margie is an inspiration both on and off of the beach.
